Each shoe is made when you order it, meaning you should allow at least six weeks for the creation of your shoes and two for its delivery. This is not an enormous, impersonal multinational corporation; My Vintage Sole is a highly specialized company based in the U.S., and is one of only a handful of companies in the nation still directly manufacturing shoes. Should at any time you feel the need to make comments or ask questions, Joanie will personally answer your emails.
The shoe making process
More than 100 steps are required for the creation of a vintage reproduction shoe. First and foremost is the creation of the shoe's "last", the wood or plastic molded contour of the sole and arch carefully designed to fit perfectly. Last making is a highly skilled art which requires a precise balance between aesthetic qualities and comfort.
Once the last is constructed, a pattern maker cuts and sews the upper and lining of the shoe, adding the toe box and the counter (the stiffener for the back). They also soak the leather to ensure it fits the last before nailing in. The upper then dries on to the last for two weeks before the heel and sole are attached.
Finishers then trim the welt, pare the heel, burnish the sole and add the insole lining. Finally, the shoe is polished and buffed before being ready to wear.
This intricate process, and its attention to detail, is why My Vintage Sole products take the time they do to make. The time and care invested in their creation provides you with a shoe that, with proper maintenance, can last a lifetime.
